Despicable Me — 3 stars — Opens July 9, 2010

Steve Carell voices an international super criminal who sounds a lot like Bela Lagosi in this very funny animated cartoon.  Carell as Gru plans to steal the moon for his own nafarious purposes.  To help the scheme along, he adopts three orphan girls who of course win his heart over the course of the movie.  The animation looks great and the retro cartoonish machines and characters make you smile.  At times “Despicable Me” feels like a Roadrunner cartoon—and that’s a complicment. Does it deliver what it promises?  Animated family fun.

Is it entertaining?  Very much.

Is it worth the price of admission?  Go for it.
