Tuesday, August 10, 2010—Date Night—2 1/2 stars—Tina Fey and Steve Carrell shake up their routine and wind up on an adventure.   Maybe not great but cute and entertaining.

Tuesday, August 3, 2010—Kick Ass—3 1/2 stars—Hilarious send up of super hero movies with Nick Cage and a really great cast of unknowns.

The Ghost Writer—3 stars—first rate thriller—Ewan McGregor travels to America to write the memoirs of a former British Prime Minister after the previous write washes up dead.

Tuesday, July 13, 2010—The Bounty Hunter—1 star—Jennifer Anniston and  Gerrard Butler—They try, but this really isn’t very funny. 

Tuesday, July 6, 2010—The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo—-4 stars “R”–in Swedish subtitled.  The year’s most talked about novel turned into a teriffic movie—a middle aged journalist teams with a young computer genius to solve a 40 year old mystery. 

Tuesday, June 29, 2010—Brooklyn’s Finest—3 stars “R”—Great old school cop drama—with a meaty part for Richard Gere.

Tuesday, June 22, 2010—Green Zone—3 stars—Good thriller starring Matt Damon who uncovers puzzling intelligence in Iraq that sends him on a life or death adventure in search of weapons of mass destruction.   

Tuesday, June 15, 2010—The Book of Eli—2 stars—Denzel Washington stars in another thriller about the apocalypse–trick ending.  Denzel fans will love.

Tuesday, June 8, 2010—Shutter Island—3 stars—old school mystery/thriller with Leonardo DiCaprio investigating a disappearance at a really weird insane asslym on Shutter Island. 

Tuesday, June 1, 2010—Alice in Wonderland–2 stars—Some of you might enjoy Johnny Depp’s dark telling of the Lewis Carrol classic.  Wonderland turns into “Underland” in this dark creepy retelling.

Tuesday, May 25, 2010—Dear John—2 1/2 stars—Nice enought Nicholas Sparks weepie with Amanda Seyfried as a beautiful girl who gives up lust for love. 

Tuesday, May 18, 2010—Invictus—3 stars—Directed by Clint Eastwood with Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela, using a sports match as a means to unite South Africa.

The Messenger—3 1/2 stars—Woody Harrellson stars with Ben Foster as Marines assigned to notify families of the death of their loved ones.  Very Powerful.

Tuesday, May 11, 2010—Edge of Darkness—3 stars “R”—Better than expected Mel Gibson thriller.  He’s a detective who uncovers a conspiracy involving the death of his daughter.

Avatar—3 stars—The biggest movie of all time uses computer technology to tell the story of a soldier sent to take his brother’s place who falls in love with the Aliens on a distant planet.  Star Trek meets Dances with Wolves.

Crazy Hearts—3 1/2 stars—Jeff Bridges won an Oscar playing a down on his luck singer who pulls his life together with the help of a young woman and her son.

The Blind Side—4 stars—Oscar winning performance by Sandra Bullock based on true story of Memphis family who takes in a kid from the streets and turns him into a football powerhouse.

The Fantastic Mr. Fox—4 stars—wonderful animated animal story with edge and the voices of George Clooney, Meryl Streep. and Bill Murray.

Up in the Air—4 stars.  George Clooney as a corporate downsizer who likes the life, or does he?

Precious—4 stars—Urban family nightmare—with Mo’Nique as an abusive mother and Gaborey Sidabey as the daughter determined to get out of her circumstances.

500 Days of Summer—Indie romance with Joseph Gordon Levitt and Zooey Deschanel.  Inglourious Basterds—4 stars—Quentin Tarrantino puts history in a blender in this outrageous tour de force.

The Hangover—4 stars—cutting edge comedy with a great payoff.

Julie and Julia—4 stars—Meryl Streep does an amazing job of capturing Julia Child’s passion.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince—3 1/2 stars—latest chapter in the excellent series about a boy wizard.

Star Trek — 3 1/2 stars —-the reboot—new life to this old series.

Up—4 stars—simply one of the year’s best—animated story of the adventure of an old man and a little boy who float away in the old man’s house.  Featuring the voice of Ed Asner. 

The Proposal—3 stars—Better than usual romantic comedy with Sandra Bullock as a hard driven executive deported to Canada on a technicality who needs a husband.
